Iran seized a second oil tanker in a week on Wednesday in Gulf waters, the U.S. Navy said, the latest escalation in a series of seizures or attacks on commercial vessels in Gulf waters since 2019. The incident comes after Iran on April 27 seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, which is being held by authorities in the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas. After years of high-level US pressure on its ally to show restraint, Israel’s purported attack on Iran takes the region and Western-led diplomacy into uncharted territory. Iran and Israel have long waged a shadow war, marked by assassinations of Tehran’s nuclear scientists and attacks on Israel by the clerical state’s allies in the Arab world such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, but the United States has put a top priority on preventing a wide-scale war. The deadliest-ever assault on Israel, carried out on October 7 by Iranian-backed Palestinian militants Hamas, shook Israel and solidified its resolve, with President Joe Biden’s administration resigned…

Biden meets Netanyahu as Gaza hospital blast overshadows Israel visit Source : BBC
Even before the deadly blast at Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza, Joe Biden’s full-throated support for Israel had convinced Palestinians and millions of other Arabs that the United States was more than simply Israel’s most important supporter. They believed the Americans were also complicit in everything Israel was doing in Gaza, including killing children. The bitter dispute over who was responsible for the attack will not change many minds. Twelve days of war have ramped up hatred and division. Israel produced a detailed rebuttal of accusations that it had attacked Al-Ahli. It displayed evidence that it said proved a missile fired…
A total of 81 Greek citizens returned home late yesterday from Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories as the situation continues to escalate. The citizens, who went to the region on two organised tours, were waiting at Ben Gurion Airport, the Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “For the remaining individual visitors, efforts are being made to ensure their safe return at the earliest possible time,” the statement added. The Gaza-based resistance launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against Israel in the early hours of Saturday morning, firing a barrage of rockets and infiltrating towns around the besieged enclave. In retaliation, the…
Bulgaria, Türkiye and Romania will soon organize mine search and clearing operations in the Black Sea, Bulgarian Defense Minister Todor Tagarev said Friday. “Some very small details need to be concretized before the operation begins. This operation will increase the security in the territorial waters of our countries,” Tagarev said at the international conference on “Achieving Peace in Ukraine” held in Bulgaria’s capital of Sofia. Tagarev said the participation of Ukrainian forces in mine-clearing operations is not foreseen. “The biggest threat to Bulgaria’s national security is Russia,” he said, adding that Russia is an aggressive country, attacking Georgia in 2008,…
