Cairo: The 43rd meeting of the directors-general of the customs authorities of Arab countries, which is organised by the General Secretariat of the Arab League (the economic sector – the Department of Arab Economic Integration), kicked off yesterday with the participation of the State of Qatar.

The State of Qatar was represented at the meeting by a delegation from the General Authority of Customs, headed by Director of Customs Affairs Department Sultan Al Nuaimi.

The Arab League said that the meeting deals with following up on the implementation of customs decisions issued by the Arab Economic and Social Council.

This is in addition to the reports and recommendations of the customs procedures and information committee, which include a number of important issues such as the Arab Customs Information Centre, the readiness of customs outlets to exchange information and data electronically.

The meeting also touches on the Arab customs cooperation agreement, which entered into force after it was ratified by seven Arab member states, as the participants discuss the establishment of a technical committee to implement its provisions, and call on the Member States to expedite the signing of the amended agreement to regulate transport by transit among the Arab countries, which was adopted by the Economic and Community Council of the
Arab League.
