Head of Hamas diaspora office, Khaled Meshaal, said yesterday that the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip “is a historic achievement for the Palestinian resistance.”

In a statement marking 18th anniversary of Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, Meshaal said: “The resistance fighters in Gaza, with the support of the resistance in the West Bank, the martyrdom operations in Israel and the Palestinians in diaspora recorded this achievement.”

Meshaal added: “The withdrawal of the Israeli occupation from Gaza represented a model for the comprehensive involvement of the Palestinians in the resistance battle inside and outside Palestine.”

He noted that the Palestinians and Muslims supported the Palestinian resistance and still support it for the purpose of liberating our land, holy sites, Jerusalem and prisoners.”

“On this occasion, we reiterate that resistance is the right choice and the pivot of the liberation strategy and the national project. The resistance achieved what absurd negotiations could not achieve,” he added.

“This year’s anniversary [of the withdrawal from Gaza] coincides with the rise of resistance in the occupied West Bank, where the Palestinian fighters inflicted much losses on the Israeli military and Israeli settlement,” noting that “this is the right way towards the liberation of Palestine and the return to the homeland.”
